Remus looked at Sirius blinking a few times of before smiling at his friend, "Sirius...I've been friends with you for 6 years, and you, James, and Peter are the only people I could really call a friend," he told him and looked back at the table still leaning onto it for support. "I could never be mad at you, hate you, or anything like that. So of course I knew it was a joke," he sighed closing his eyes. He glanced down at the food in front of him not feeling very hungry at the moment, and all he did was bend farther down on to the table flicking one of the drum sticks on his plate. James had already started devouring his food, and continued to stuff his mouth with the meal and the desert treats as well.
He could see some of the Slytherin leave off to bed, and he just wanted to do the same! Though, he couldn't no he had a job to do. "I can't wait for this night to be over," he said softly to himself closing his eyes still not feeling hungry. His eyes looked upon James once again who had finally after about thirty minutes finished stuffing his face, and he sat there waiting on Sirius to finish before head off.
"Hey Moony, do you think you can handle those first years by yourself right now?" James asked him, and the werewolf nodded his head swaying back and forth slightly.
"I'll be fine Prongs, but thanks for worrying," he smiled looking up at his friend who glanced over at Sirius.

"Sure, sure." Sirius answered, shrugging slightly as he piled food onto his plate. Out of the corner of his gray eyes, he continued to watch Remus even after he was shoving food into his mouth at fast speed. After everything that had happened on the train, before the food, he was starving. None the less, he was still worried about Remus. About what his friend was thinking and feeling after performing the spell to put him in such a state that he couldn't even perform to most simple of spells. He couldn't help but stop eating entirely as Remus didn't eat at all. He heard the other talking, probably to himself about wishing the night to be over. He sighed, knowing the werewolf was probably tired and wanted nothing more then to sleep. Oh how Sirius would love to curl up next to him... But no. No time for a thought like that.
He turned more fully toward the other, about to speak before James cut in, wondering if Remus could handle the first years. It came as no surprise when Remus said he'd be fine. Sirius gave James a hard stare, wondering if the other would understand that he intended to stay by Remus no matter what. Even while the other was busy with the first years. He couldn't leave the kid. He'd promised just there, on the train. James should know and understand that he intended to keep his promise and watch Remus.

James sighed and stood to his feet as the hall had started to empty, and glanced over at Peter who hadn't spoken a single word the whole feast. "I'll see you three in the dormitory then?" He asked, though it hadn't been spoken as a question more of a state men. His back was slumped and hair messy as ever, though his face looked a bit dry from the sudden change of temperature they had happen upon enter Hogwarts. Their robes were crisp and slightly harden from the sweat from the humidity had dried up in the cool Great Hall.
"Yes," Remus nodded his head and James waved good bye before finally heading out of the nearly empty hall. Standing up the yellow eyed boy glanced around at the first years gathered towards the end of the table talking amongst themselves about what they were suppose to do now. He glanced back down at his plate that was still filled with food, but instead of grabbing for it he pushed it farther away from him and stood to his feet walking over towards the 11 year olds. A few looked over at him confused while another giggled slightly and whispered to her friend about the werewolf's scarred face. "Hullo, I'm Remus Lupin. The Gryffindor's Prefect and I'll be taking you to the Gryffindor Common Room. Now if you're all finished may you please stand up and follow me?"
"Watch this," one of the 1st years whispered to someone, and stood to his feet. "Why would we follow you? I mean look at you do you even think you can make it all the way to the common room? Anyways I don't follow people with patches in their robes," the 11 year old growled. If it hadn't been made obvious he was part of the richer Wizarding community and could clearly sense Remus could easily be walked over. Moony stood there for a second in silence and bit his bottom lip nervously; this hadn't happened to any of the other Prefects from what he heard during his last few years at Hogwarts. Why couldn't they just listen to him? All he wanted to do was go up and get some sleep and things were now that seemed to be a faint chance of that happening.

Sirius followed behind Remus by a few steps, keeping a steady glance on both him and the first years as best he could. After the other had pushed his food away and gotten up, he'd taken just a minute before standing himself. Now that he got closer, he could hear his friend greeting the younger children, telling them who he was, what he was doing. And then a child had stood up. Spoken. Insulted Remus. His eyes narrowed.
"What is wrong with you?" he growled, stepping forward from where he'd stood and grabbing the eleven year old by the front of his robes. "No one insults a Marauder. Especially not some first year. And especially not when insulting Remmy-love." he had pulled the boy forward, holding him in place just inches before his face. His unoccupied hand was inching toward his wand. Anger rising in him. How could anyone ever insult Remus?

Remus blinked a few times as Sirius grabbed a hold of the first year and sighed dropping his head, though his cheeks blushed at the sudden nickname Sirius had given him. He glanced up at him 100 percent sure that his best mate was ready to slaughter that first year right then and there. He folded his arms across his chest to open his mouth in protest, but couldn't think of anything to really say. Though, this had happened before and nothing he'd say would probably stop Sirius from threatening this first year.
"M-m-marauder?!" The first year squeaked staring at Sirius wide eyed. "H-he's...A...Marauder?!" He questioned, obviously he had an older sibling that attended the school that must have told him about the Marauders. "You're Sirius Black! I'M SUCH A BIG FAN!" He squeaked happily even with him holding him up by the collar of his shirt.
"Sirius, please put him down, and DON'T CALL ME THAT AGAIN!" Remus spoke softly at first, and rose his voice to match the reddish pink shade plastered across his face.

Sirius stared at the child in confusion for a moment, blinking his cool gray eyes as his grip loosened gradually. "Yeah. Marauder, kid. Both of u--" he was cut off when the child squealed something about being a big fan. His eyebrow arched. "Don't I have enough without adding the first years to the mix?" he asked, closing his eyes while rolling them in the same motion.
Upon Remus' command, he immediately let the boy go completely, opening his eyes in the process to give the kid a slight shove. He heard Remus' 'request' about not using the nickname and merely let out a bark-like laugh as he gently shoved the eleven year old child away from him in order to walk over to one of his three best friends and hug him tight. "Now, now. You know you love me, Moons." he teased, grinning widely toward the first years to show he wasn't being gay. Even if he wished he was. Gawd did he love Remus. And he wanted the other to know, to accept him so badly. So badly that he was completely and utterly terrified of rejection.

Remus glanced at Sirius and sighed reaching forward and grabbing the males hand and closed his eyes letting a mournful sigh escape him. Sirius could be immature at times, right now being one of those times. Though, he did sense what a nervous wrecked his best mate had been for the last couple years. Sometimes the thought of Sirius being nervous around him sure made him feel like an awful friend. Like how he had convinced himself that him and the other Marauders had gone through so much trouble over him; especially during the full moon.
"Sirius, are you scared of me?" He asked, his voice barely sounding the amount of a faint whisper. Though, it could have been harder to understand by how shaky it had sounded. But! Nonetheless he had to ask his best mate how he felt about him being a werewolf, even if it was in front of these 1st years who were only moments before bombarding him for what he wore. He opened his eyes and glanced at his hand in Sirius and quickly pulled away his face flushed from embarrassment, "sorry, y-you don't have to answer that."
At once he turned his attention back to the first years and looked over at them. All 12 of them stood to their feet and some shifted their robes to a more comfortable position. "I-If you'd please follow me, you may come as well Padfoot," his voice had died off between speaking to the 11 year olds and Sirius. Today had been quite an eventful day, and in all honest truth he just wanted to snuggle with Sirius in his large warm cozy....NO! There'll be no thinking like that!

Remus had grabbed his had. Had grabbed his hand with no previous suggestions that the action would be okay. And he loved it. Sirius loved the feel of the smooth hands of one of his best friends' against the roughness of his own hands. Almost without thought, he squeezed it gently in a show of support, though the other probably wouldn't notice. He listened intently as the other spoke. The words cutting into his heart with a sickening reality that Remus truly believed he could ever fear him. "Remus--" he was cut off by a quick apology and a mentioning that he didn't need to answer. Did that mean the werewolf has discovered his own stupidity or that he'd thought the wrong thing?
The other Gryffindor turned to address the first years now. Telling them to follow behind them both. He sighed and squeezed Remus' hand to a noticeably tighter degree, pulling his friend around to face him.
"Remus, you git. I'm not afraid of you." he whispered softly as he made it look as if he was simply starting them both off in the correct direction toward the common room. He noted that the other didn't look so good. He looked really tired and like he could really use some support. An idea crept into Sirius' mind and in the same whisper as he'd used just moments before he added, "You know, Rem. You can sleep with me, if you're scared." he made it sound not only teasing, but sincere at the same time.

Looking up at Sirius a small crept on to Remus' lips as he decided to answer the question the werewolf had asked. It was occurring to him only now how stupid that question must have sounded and how shaky his voice was. He could feel Sirius slip his hand back over his, and the warmth felt amazing even if they were rough. He opened his mouth to say something, but sudden Sirius had whispered something else to him.
His cheeks turned a scarlet shade as the offered now laid upon the table or in this case the bed. Could Sirius have read his thoughts somehow about him wanting to sleep next to him? Though, he could sense a bit sarcasm in his friends voice. He could also sense that Sirius had only used the sarcasm as some sort of back up plan if he'd spaz out on him about such a thing.
"If you don't mind," Remus told him glancing back as he felt himself being lead towards the halls.
"Why is he holding your hand?" The pesky first year from before asked folding his arms across his chest.
"I'm sickly, he's just making sure I don't faint." Remus answered quickly glancing back at the first year who apparently wasn't happy with that answer.
"Fine, but what's with all your scars? You look like Greyback had his way with you."
Remus hadn't answered this question instead he turned away and forced himself to continue walking, though the 1st year was chanting with his friends about how anyone who got caught by Greyback is mental.

Sirius didn't get a chance to answer as Remus spoke seeing as the annoying first year spoke again. And then Remus answered. And then there was another sentence from Remus. And then the brat dared to say something that really ticked Sirius off.
"You... Shut up. Now." he said, turning to the first year. He tensed, grip tightening around Remus' hand as he glared at the child with as much intensity as he could. "Don't you ever say that--" he cut off as Remus walked off, leading the first years. He released the other's hand. Just then he realized he'd been speaking in such low a voice, no one would have heard.
He slowed down to walk next to the offending first year. "You. You shut up. Now." he growled right into the kid's ear. No one spoke about Remus like this kid dared to. And no one talked about Greyback victims being mental. Ever.
