Lily took out one of the books again and skimmed through it, out of boredom until she heard James' voice ring through the whole store. Had he seriously said Snivellus again? Good lord.
Annoyed, she snapped the book shut, put it back in it's place and headed toward James quickly. She watched him knock over his books and angrily shouted at him.
"Why'd you do that?" she asked him, furious. She bent down, helping Severus pick up his books. "Is everything really that funny to you? Everything you do is cruel James Potter." She shook her head, breathed in, then out and turned to Severus.
"Here." Lily said, returning to her calm and natural voice, handing Severus his books back. She smiled. "I haven't seen you this summer; how've you been?" she asked him.

Sirius came out from behind one of the back bookcases he had been hiding out in, to see James knock Severus' books from his hands and then see Lily come to the losers' rescue. He walked forward though and into sight and folded his arms across his chest. "Lily you shouldn't have to help the bloody git. I mean come on. Look at him, he's capable of taking care of himself," he started and attempted not to laugh, "but I guess he just likes us messing around with him." he said and walked over to where James was standing and placed one of his hands in his pockets to touch his wand.

"What are you going to do Sirius pull out your wand?" Remus growled; finally speaking up. Though, honestly it hadn't been because he didn't want them picking on Severus. More like they were only 16, and if he were to use magic that'd just be terrible! He quickly took a position between them his arms folded across his chest; and, the book had been pushed up against his chest as he made a hmph sound.
"But..." James began, but as soon as he saw Remus' face he stopped dead and sighed slumping his shoulders. "Fine Moony, you win..."

Lily looked at both James and Sirius with disgust.
"I help him because he's my friend. I know your big fat head is incapable of comprehending it but I don't care." she said, scowling Sirius. She looked as Remus stopped his friends, and with a sigh of relief said, "Thank you Remus."

Sirius took his hand out of his pocket. He hated it when Remus did this. It made him feel so guilty and ashamed of himself, but he just didn't like Severus. And that much of him that didn't like him was enough to make him want to bully him. But before he could say anything Lily was ranting about his head being big and fat.
"I need some air," Sirius mumbled, not caring if anyone heard, and then stomped off out of the book store, totally forgetting the fact that his books were still there. It didn't matter at the moment to him as he sat down on the nearest bench and pouted.

"OI! WAIT FOR ME PADFOOT!" James shouted chasing after Sirius, also in a pissy mood. Meanwhile Remus bent down and helped pick up some of Severus' books as well.
"I...I cannot believe I just did that," he said shyly his face flushed as the thought about how they'd react after they cooled down a bit, "I shouldn't have done that...I think that was a enough for James to kick me back on the street..."

Peter, who had had his face buried in a book about food jinkses finally noticed two of his friend's absenses. He blinked a couple of times, rather confused.
When Peter was confused, he found it best to stick with someone smart. He put down the book, and made his way towards Remus, Lily, and Severous. They knew what was going on, at least.
"Did you know that there's a spell that can make celery tango? When would you ever need celery to tango?"
Oh yes, Peter had been working on his small talk all summer. He was rather proud of his ability to start conversation.

A petite girl wandered inside the small store, looking around cautiously, as if something would jump out at her, even though there would be no such thing. A small tingle came from the bell above her to announce her presence, much to her dismay. She shut the door behind her lightly, and paused. Something had caught her eye. Now normally, this would have been a bit early to go shopping for school things, as she had theorized, but she had been proved wrong, for there stood a good few feet away from her, the Marauders.
Maddie, that same girl, thought that they hadn't noticed her; Or hoped, to say the least. But they probably had. She drifted away from them behind a shelf of books and searched for the ones she needed.
"Advanced Potion-Making, Advanced Potion-Making..." she whispered, as her finger passed a group of books.
She froze. She hadn't realized she said anything. Her eyes fell to the floor, her lips held shut. The reason Maddie didn't want to be seen, was because she wasn't used to talking to people, nobody really cared to talk to her. And even though she seemingly didn't care when people were a bit nasty to her, she really didn't like it, and she really couldn't stand it.

Sirius looked up as James called but didn't reply. He kept thinking of Remus' response to their teasing and of Lily's words. It hurt. It hurt to feel as lousy as the two had made him feel toward his own actions. He couldn't stand it.
Sighing, he looked down again, lost in thoughts of similar incidents. Remus never liked how they treated Severus, but he couldn't help it. The other gave off a bad vibe toward him. He simply /had/ to tease him. But Lily. She'd said they didn't know what it meant to be a friend. Didn't they, though? Didn't they prove such by taking care of finding Remus and helping each other with problems?
He'd completely forgot James was following by now.

ooc//Wow. I'm behind on my posts in this board. xD
Severus was able to contain himself as James pushed his books to the ground and threw petty insults at him. Fuming, he stooped down to pick up all his books. To his surprise, Lily came forward with a sharp retort at James and immediately squatted down beside him to help him pick up his books. He wanted to open his mouth to say something; to say 'hello', or perhaps even to answer her question. But before he could even think of anything to say, Sirius Black emerged from behind a bookcase. Severus didn't even hear what he was saying to Lily, as her hand had just touched his as she handed him one of his books. His heart began to beat even faster... Oh Merlin, he hoped she couldn't hear the unusually loud thumping noise emitting from his thin chest... Severus was vaguely aware of Remus also coming to his rescue. He came crashing back to reality as Lily spoke again. Friend. She had called him her friend. From any other's mouth, he would have denied it. But the fact that she said it was not only okay with him, he liked it. But he couldn't help thinking that perhaps he would like to be more to her than just a friend... A wave of relief crashed over him as Sirius and James departed from the shop. But his defenses were raised again as Peter Pettigrew began to waddle in the direction of Severus, Remus, and Lily; the latter two were now both assisting Severus in redeeming his books from the carpeted floor. He resisted the urge to laugh as Peter opened his mouth to report about a strange spell... There was always something odd about that boy...

Lily smiled once again at Severus before standing up.
"Are you sure you're alright?" she asked again, for she hadn't got an answer the first time. She turned to Remus and rose an eyebrow saying nothing as Peter had came bounding there way. She laughed at Peter's comment and shook her head.
"I wasn't aware of that Peter. I'm sure that'll come in handy some day though." she said, then turned as the bell on the door had rung again. Her green eyes moved to the door and she frowned. Who is that girl? she thought, trying to put the face with a name. Lily had seen the blonde-haired girl around school but there hadn't been much correspondance between them. In fact, nothing at all.

Lily's smile seemed to melt his heart. The moment froze, and he seemed to stare into her smiling face for eternity. She was smiling at him. The smile faltered slightly as she asked him about his current status. For a few seconds, he merely stared at her. He quickly came to his senses and muttered a quick 'yes' to her question. A sense of dismay arose in him as she turned her attention to Peter. Her laugh pierced the somewhat tense air that still remained after Sirius and James' exit. It was such a gorgeous sound. But he was still a little distraught that her attention had been diverted from him... Severus followed Lily's gaze. He suddenly noticed the blonde girl that had entered. He hadn't even heard her. He knew he'd seen her before... She was a Ravenclaw in their year. He struggled to remember her name. "Madeline Redwine," he muttered rather loudly as realization hit him.

Lily looked at Severus with a questioning look.
"How'd you know I was wondering what her name was?" she said, now amused. Madeline Redwine. Now that name did sound a bit familiar. Ravenclaw she was. Lily looked back at Maddie who had been muttering something about Advance Potions. She walked her slowly to Maddie and pulled out a quite large green book from a shelf next to them.
"Here.." Lily said shyly to her, handing her the book, "I think that's what you're looking for. I'm in that class too." She gave Madeline a quick smile.

Maddie jumped to her feet when she heard someone say her name. She clutched at the necklace dangling around her neck as if it was gonna take her away from here. Her eyes wandered to Lily, she was talking to her. "O-Oh, yes thank you--I mean no, keep it!" she said rather loudly, and bit her lip. She was unsure what to say, not a lot of people talked to her, other than her mum. Maddie didn't know what to say, in her eyes she was being nice to the girl. She copied what Lily did, smiled. "I'm Maddie, by the way."

Lily smiled again and shrugged. The girl seemed to be quite shy and reserved as she watched Maddie hesitate before doing any movement or action.
"Are you sure you don't need it? I already have it..so here." she said slowly placing it in Maddie's hands. "It'll probably come in use at school."
She nodded, holding out her hand, "Nice to meet you, I'm Lily."
